Does Chanel work on Commission?
It could be said that the beautiful and iconic Chanel bags can sell themselves, however, sales associates still play an incredibly important role in securing sales for the brand.
There’s no question that incentives improve employee motivation and subsequently drive sales. Chanel, much like other high-end luxury brands, offers its employees a commission scheme. This means that Chanel sales associates within boutiques get paid commission on top of their salary based on a percentage of their monthly sales.
All sales associates will have targets to hit on a monthly basis, and every sale they make will go towards this; which can result in a hefty pay top-up. Although the initial starting wage isn’t particularly impressive at Chanel for sales assistants, the added bonus of commission can really raise a paycheck. Some may suggest, however, that these commission schemes make the luxury retail world a much more competitive field.
Do Chanel Staff Get Discounts?
The words discount and Chanel aren’t often seen in the same sentence! However, as an employee at Chanel, you are entitled to their discount scheme. But, how much discount do Chanel employees actually get?
All year, Chanel employees can take advantage of as much as a 30-50% discount on merchandise in boutiques. Employees can also benefit from great discounts on all Chanel beauty products. Additionally, there is a sale twice a year exclusively for Chanel staff.
Although Chanel is incredibly generous with its discount offering and staff sales, purchases in each category can be limited. Limitations during employee sales include restricting purchases to 3 pairs of shoes, 2 handbags, and 5 items of jewelry per year. The items available at staff sales sell incredibly quickly, as expected! To avoid resale, Chanel has implemented additional stamping to these items to signify that they are a staff sale purchase.
Whilst we can’t all enjoy the discount afforded to Chanel employees, the preloved market is a great place to find a Chanel bag at a reduced cost. Some of our favourite places to find the best Chanel bags are:
eBay
Vestiaire Collective
Fashionphile
Are Chanel staff paid fairly?
Of course, there are pros and cons to any employment. When it comes to working in a high-end luxury retail environment, fair pay is definitely an expectation. However, the starting salary as a Chanel sales associate is average in terms of UK salaries. It was reported during a survey completed by over 90 former and current employees at Chanel, that 60% strongly agreed that they were paid fairly for their work.
Despite this, overall Chanel employees recoup what they may be losing out on in their base pay grade, with additional benefits and perks from the brand. As a brand, Chanel really encourages progression within their job roles and gives employees opportunities to travel and work in different locations. All employees at Chanel are also entitled to numerous benefits, including insurance and discount opportunities, which we discuss further a little later on.
